Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) is locked and loaded for the UFC 267 mixed martial arts (MMA) event on Sat., Oct. 30, 2021 on ESPN+ from inside Etihad Arena on “Fight Island” in Abu Dhabi. Headlining duties fall to light heavyweight champion Jan Blachowicz, who puts his 205-pound title on the line against longtime division contender Glover Teixeira. Before that battle of combat sports elder statesmen gets underway, Petr Yan and Cory Sandhagen will battle for the interim bantamweight belt, created in the absence of current 135-pound titleholder Aljamain Sterling, who is still recovering from serious neck surgery. Khamzat Chimaev, Alexander Volkov, and Volkan Oezdemir will also see action Abu Dhabi.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returns to “Fight Island” in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates, on Sat., Oct. 30, 2021, with another blockbuster event, headlined by two highly-anticipated world championship bouts. Light Heavyweight champion, Jan Blachowicz, goes for his second successful title defense when he takes on No. 1-ranked contender, Glover Teixeira. In UFC 267’s co-main event, former Bantamweight champion and No. 1-seeded contender, Petr Yan, locks horns with No. 3-ranked standout, Cory Sandhagen, for the interim 135-pound belt. Round 1: Early shot from Amirkhani, who powers through a potential guillotine to land on top. One minute in. Side control for Amirkhani. Two minutes in, looking for mount. Murphy regains guard. Brief scramble when Murphy tries to invert. Murphy stands, Amirkhani still attached. Two minutes to go.

One hook for Amirkhani. Loses it, drags Murphy back to his knees. Side control with a minute to go. Back up, back down. Murphy can’t get top position. 10-9 Amirkhani.

Round 2: Amirkhani looks for an early takedown and shoots directly into a monster knee that puts him out in impact.

Final result: Murphy def. Amirkhani by KO (knee)


185 lbs.: Andre Petroski vs. Hu Yaozong

Round 1: Petroski lands an early left hand, then jumps on Hu and wraps up a guillotine when the latter slips. Cranking on it from mount a minute in. He abandons it, then takes the back. Hard punches. Brief RNC attempt, loses it, retakes the back when Hu tries to scramble. Now another guillotine attempt, lets it go. Lead lefts when they stand. Brutal counter left. Hu marching forward, lands a front kick to the body and gets wobbled by a right hook. Two minutes to go.

More left hands landing for Petroski, body kick, more left hands. Hu’s eating everything so far. Long right lands for Hu, continuing to shrug off the left hands. One minute to go. Petroski shoots, hits a single-leg, lands an uppercut on the way up. More counters by Petroski. Uppercut-cross-body kick. 10-9 Petroski.

Round 2: Early takedown from Petroski, can’t get the front headlock. Left hands, another takedown. On top in half guard. One minute in. Left hands, m guillotine, side control. North-south, anaconda choke. No dice. Arm triangle now. Hu holding onto his own leg to defend two minutes in. BAck to side control. Full mount, another arm triangle. Two minutes to go.

This one looks deep, but Hu uses the same defense. Petroski abandons it and takes turtle, landing punches. Hu works to stand, dragged back to his knees. Petroski takes the back with a minute to go. A little too low to threaten the RNC. Hu scrambles up and avoids elbows at the bell. Borderline 10-8. 10-9 Petroski.

Round 3: Petroski shoots, denied, lands an overhand left. The next shot’s better and he drags Hu down against the fence. One minute in. Elbows from Petroski, puts in a hook. One minute in. Hu tries to spin into guard, gets snapped down with the front headlock, then stands and separates. Monster uppercut and straight left land for Petroski to no visible effect. He shoots from too far out, manages to complete it into side control anyway.

Full mount for Petroski with two minutes to go. Now the back, both hooks. Nasty elbows from mount. Hu regains half guard. One minute to go. Petroski wraps up an arm triangle and it’s the deepest one yet, finally forcing a tap.

Final result: Petroski def. Hu by submission (arm triangle choke)


125 lbs.: Allan Nascimento vs. Tagir Ulanbekov

Round 1: Early low kicks from Nascimento. Sharp jabs from Ulanbekov in return. Continuing to trade those strikes, counter right by Nascimento. One minute in. Nascimento tries a flying knee that allows Ulanbekov to grab the body lock and take him down. Nascimento looking for a triangle, nothing doing. Armbar attempt into a lovely sweep, but Ulanbekov rolls through into another takedown attempt. Nascimento attempts a trip. Ulanbekov lands one of his own but has to fight off a leglock. Nascimento takes top position, but gets caught in a nasty guillotine with two minutes to go.

Ulanbekov uses it to mount and it looks ultra-deep, but Nascimento somehow survives and goes for a leg again. Ulanbekov extracts it and sets up in half guard. Nascimento looking for a kimura sweep, gives up side control. Armbar transition. Hell of a round. 10-9 Ulanbekov.

Round 2: Nascimento goes back to the low kicks. Ulanbekov answering with the jab. Low double-leg from Ulanbekov. Nascimento defending on the fence a minute in. Looking for a kimura, ends up on his back. It’s getting deeper. Ulanbekov rotates his arm and pulls it free. On top in guard with two minutes to go.

Both landing short shots. Nascimento firing elbows from his back. Triangle attempt, nothing there with a minute to go. Slick kimura to armbar transition. I think Nascimento won that round off of his back. 10-9 Nascimento.

Round 3: Early shot from Ulanbekov. Nascimento looks for that same kimura to armbar transition, can’t get it. Short elbows from Ulanbekov a minute in. Short punches from the top. Nascimento tries a pair of triangles two minutes in, can’t get them. Ulanbekov continuing to work from the top. Two minutes to go.

Left hands landing for him in half guard. Nascimento’s submission attack has slowed. One minute to go. Brief kimura attempt from Nascimento, eats a diving right. Another triangle attempt, nothing doing. Ulanbekov postures up for some bigger shots and moves to side control. 10-9 Ulanbekov.

Final result: Ulanbekov def. Nascimento by split decision
