Burns Wants Diaz At UFC 268, Offers $200K Side Bet

MMA news

Gilbert Burns is trying to make the most out of his recent decision win over Stephen Thompson at UFC 264 and that includes a specific callout of Nate Diaz.

After smothering “Wonderboy” with grappling at UFC 264 and returning to the win column following a TKO loss to UFC welterweight champion Kamaru Usman, Burns has been trying to land his next big fight. He first targeted fellow welterweight contender Leon Edwards before turning his attention to Diaz on Friday.

Burns did his bidding in a social media post directed at Diaz. Not only did the Brazilian veteran demand a matchup with Diaz at the proposed UFC 268 card this November in New York City, but “Durinho” offered a very lucrative side bet as well. Check it out below:

Hey guys, when I was fighting @NateDiaz209 was running his mouth. Now I’m free, and he is free, he is running away. @NateDiaz209 let’s fight at MSG for 5 rounds. Loser has to pay the winner extra $200K

It is unknown at this time if Diaz is even interested in a matchup with Burns, but it’s a fight that could put him right back in the mix at 170 pounds. Remember, Diaz is coming off a five-round loss to Edwards this past June. Diaz nearly finished “Rocky” in the fifth round but ultimately came up short to drop his second-consecutive fight.

If the promotion was able to put this welterweight bout together the upcoming UFC 268 PPV card would instantly transform into one of the biggest events of the year. The card is already expected to feature a welterweight title rematch between Usman and top contender Colby Covington, as well as a lightweight bout featuring Justin Gaethje and Michael Chandler. Adding Burns vs. Diaz to that lineup would be insane.

What do you think? Does Burns vs. Diaz make sense? Should UFC add it to UFC 268 this November?
