Belal Muhammad won the most important decision of his career.
No stranger to going to the judges, Muhammad earned a unanimous verdict against Leon Edwards on Saturday at UFC 304 to claim the welterweight title. “Remember the Name” got out to an early lead, dominating the first two rounds with his grappling en route to scores of 48-47, 48-47, and 49-46 in his favor.

Judges Ben Cartlidge and Derek Clearly both had three rounds for Muhammad (with Cartlidge giving him 2, 3, and 5, and Cleary giving him 2, 4, and 5), while Clemens Werner gave Muhammad rounds 1, 2, 4, and 5.
Though the fight had plenty of drama, including great show of resilience by Edwards in Round 3, Muhammad had the clear advantage in at least three of the five rounds and Edwards needed a finish in the final five minutes. Muhammad refused to let Edwards author a miracle comeback, securing the fight with more relentless wrestling to become a UFC champion.
