The Nate Diaz vs. Jorge Masvidal boxing event has a new co-main event.
On Friday, ESPN reported that former WBA and IBF middleweight champion Daniel Jacobs will face Shane Mosley Jr. on July 6 at the Honda Center in Anaheim, Calif., in the penultimate fight of the evening. The bout is set to be a 10-round super middleweight fight. MMA Fighting’s Damon Martin confirmed the report.
Jacobs was the WBA middleweight champion from 2014 until 2016 when he lost the title in a competitive matchup with Gennady Golovkin. He then won the IBF middleweight title two years later, but lost it to Canelo Alvarez in 2019. Most recently, the 37-year-old Jacobs lost a split decision to John Ryder in Feb. of 2022.
Mosley is the son of International Boxing Hall of Famer Shane Mosley, who was a three-weight world champion through the late 90s and early 2000s. The 33-year-old Mosley Jr. is 21-4 in his professional boxing career and currently riding a four-fight winning streak. Most recently, Mosley Jr. defeated Joshua Conley this past December.
The Diaz vs. Masvidal card was originally slated to take place this Saturday, June 1. However, the event was moved to July so as not to conflict with UFC 302 or the Queensberry vs. Matchroom 5 vs. 5 event taking place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
