UFC Fight Night 238 post-event facts: Umar Nurmagomedov on the rise in bantamweight books

The UFC opened its March schedule Saturday with UFC Fight Night 238, which took place at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

The main event saw Jairzinho Rozenstruik (14-5 MMA, 8-5 UFC) overcome a slow start to batter Shamil Gaziev (12-1 MMA, 1-1 UFC) in a referee TKO stoppage after the end of the fourth round, putting him back on the winning track.

Event stats

The UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance payout for the event totaled $133,500.

Debuting fighters went 1-4 at the event.

Steve Erceg and Bernardo Sopaj earned $50,000 UFC Fight Night 238 fight-night bonuses. Vinicius Oliveira earned two bonuses for a total of $100,000.

The UFC sold VIP tickets to fans for UFC Fight Night 238, but the promotion did not make public the total number of tickets sold or the gate.

Betting favorites went 8-3 on the card.

Betting favorites fell to 3-4 in UFC headliners this year.

Total fight time for the 11-bout card was 2:17:29.

Jairzinho Rozenstruik def. Shamil Gaziev

Rozenstruik has earned 13 of his 14 career victories by stoppage.

Rozenstruik has earned all eight of his UFC victories by knockout.

Rozenstruik’s eight TKO/knockout victories since 2019 in UFC competition are the most among active fighters in the company.

Gaziev had his 12-fight winning streak snapped for the first defeat of his career.

Vitor Petrino’s (11-0 MMA, 4-0 UFC) four-fight UFC winning streak at light heavyweight is tied for the third-longest active streak in the division behind Carlos Ulberg (five) and Khalil Rountree (five).

Tyson Pedro (10-5 MMA, 6-5 UFC) retired from MMA competition following his loss.

Pedro has suffered three of his five career losses by decision.

Muhammad Mokaev’s (12-0 MMA, 6-0 UFC) six-fight UFC winning streak at flyweight is the longest active streak in the division.

Alex Perez (23-8 MMA, 5-4 UFC) suffered his first decision loss since Jan. 7, 2012 – a span of 4,438 days (more than 12 years) and 26 fights.

Bekzat Almakhan (14-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) suffered the first decision loss of his career.

Erceg (12-1 MMA, 3-0 UFC) earned the first stoppage victory of his UFC career.

Matt Schnell (16-8 MMA, 6-6 UFC) has suffered seven of his eight career losses by stoppage.

Eryk Anders (16-7 MMA, 8-8 UFC) has earned four of his eight UFC victories by decision.

Jamie Pickett (13-11 MMA, 2-7 UFC) retired from MMA competition after his loss.

Pickett’s five-fight losing skid is the longest of his career. He hasn’t earned a victory since January 2022.

Pickett has suffered three of his seven UFC losses by decision.

Sopaj (11-3 MMA, 0-1 UFC) suffered the first stoppage loss of his career with his knockout defeat.

Aiemann Zahabi’s (11-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC) four-fight UFC winning streak at bantamweight is tied for the fourth-longest active streak in the division behind Dvalishvili (nine), Bautista (six) and Jonathan Martinez (five).

Zahabi has earned three of his five UFC victories by decision.

Javid Basharat (14-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) had his 15-fight unbeaten streak snapped for the first defeat of his career.

Christian Leroy Duncan (10-1 MMA, 3-1 UFC) has earned nine of his 10 career victories by stoppage. That includes all three of his UFC wins.

Claudio Ribeiro (11-5 MMA, 1-3 UFC) has suffered four of his five career losses by stoppage.

Ribeiro has suffered all three of his UFC losses by knockout.

Ludovit Klein (21-4-1 MMA, 5-2-1 UFC) has earned 17 of his 21 career victories by stoppage.

Klein’s five-fight UFC unbeaten streak at lightweight is tied for the second-longest active streak in the division behind Islam Makhachev (12).

Klein earned the fourth knockout in UFC history stemming from a front kick to the body. Alexander Volkov, Dan Hooker and Siyar Bahadurzada also accomplished the feat.

A.J. Cunningham (11-4 MMA, 0-1 UFC) has suffered both of his career stoppage losses by knockout.

Loik Radzhabov def. Abdul-Kareem Al-Selwady

Abdul-Kareem Al-Selwady (15-4 MMA, 0-1 UFC) has suffered all four of his career losses by knockout.
