The UFC Vegas 45 weigh-ins took place today from inside the same venue as Saturday night’s event, the UFC APEX. Fighters started hitting the scales at 12 pm ET looking to make their Dec. 18 bouts official, and all but three fo them were successful.
Justin Tafa, Sijara Eubanks, and Macy Chiasson all missed weight for their fights. Chiasson was the biggest offender by being 2.5 above the limit for her featherweight bout. A matchup with Raquel Pennington that was switched last week from a bantamweight contest. Tafa, however, made history by being the first fighter unable to make the 265-pound heavyweight limit.
We will keep you posted if those bouts go ahead as scheduled with a purse fine and new catchweight.
Justin Tafa becomes first heavyweight to not make weight in UFC history
The card is led by a combo of fights between ranked talent in the heavyweight and welterweight divisions. In the co-main event, Belal Muhammad (19-3) and Stephen Thompson (16-5-1) will battle to improve their top-10 rankings and title aspirations heading into 2022. The bout is a major opportunity for Muhammad to prove he is an elite talent in the division. And beating a stalwart star of the weight class in “Wonderboy” would certainly achieve that end.
In the headliner, fan-favorite heavyweight slugger Derrick Lewis makes his return to the Octagon to face off with one of the division’s fastest rising talents in Philadelphia’s Chris Daukaus. A win over Lewis — a recent interim title challenger — could catapult Daukaus into a possible title eliminator match-up next.
UFC Vegas 45 kicks off at 4 pm ET with preliminary action. The main card follows at 10 pm ET. The entire event will air exclusively on streaming service ESPN+.
