UFC welterweight Colby Covington confirmed on Wednesday that his most famous fans, members of the Trump family, will be in attendance for his UFC 268 main event title fight against Kamaru Usman.
Former interim champion Covington (16-2) has a unique friendship with the forty-fifth president of the United States. The one-term commander-and-chief allowed “Chaos” to be the first UFC champion to visit the Oval Office. Covington was stageside for a debate during Trump’s failed bid at winning a second term in 2020. And getting post-fight calls from the former president has become a regular occurrence for the Oregon native.
Colby Covington expects Trump family members to be in the house to support him at UFC 268
That bond also extends to the Trump children who have also been public supporters of the controversial 170-pound fighter. And several of them will be in the house at New York’s Madison Square Garden to root Covington on in his monumental rematch with Usman (19-1) next weekend’s pay-per-view headliner.
“I know some of the first family will be there. Eric Trump’s talked about coming. Donald Trump, Jr. Laura Trump. And I got some big name celebrities that will be there, but I can’t be spoiling everything,” Covington told TMZ Sports. “I can’t be giving away all the secrets. You guys have got to tune in. All the snowflakes out there, you’ve got to tune in. Because I’ve got a show for you.”
Covington expects to channel Donald Trump’s ‘dragon energy’ at Kamaru Usman
Covington is unsure if the Trump family patriarch will be attending his fight on November 6. However, he fully expects calls before and after the fight from the man that he claims he has an out-of-body experience talking to. And that the former president exudes a unique “dragon energy” he plans to unleash on the current welterweight king next week.
“I was just talking to the Don, Donald Trump yesterday. He was at the golf course, giving me his well wishes. I know he had a big rally that day. I’m not sure if he’s gonna be able to make, but I’m sure I’ll have my [usual] phone call with him after every fight. So I know I’ll be talking to him,” said Covington.
“It’s so out of body [talking to Trump]. It doesn’t feel real sometimes. It’s like is this really me or am I out of body and looking down on myself or something. It’s amazing having [the Trump family] support. I have this energy that I get from him. I call it dragon energy. I’m gonna unleash that dragon energy next weekend and I’m gonna take that UFC undisputed title back, and I know Donald Trump’s gonna take back the White House.
Usman vs Covington will be a rematch of the pairs UFC 245 bout from two years ago. A fight “The Nigerian Nightmare” won by technical knockout in the fifth and final round.
UFC 268 takes place next Saturday, with the main card airing exclusively on ESPN+ PPV for US $69.99. The night’s co-main event will feature another championship rematch when strawweight champion Rose Namajunas looks to defend her recently won title, against former champion Zhang Weili.
