Manon Fiorot picked up another impressive win as she continued her undefeated run in the flyweight division with her latest performance at UFC Vegas 40.
Fiorot attacked with striking combinations from the first second of the fight until the very last as she put Mayra Bueno Silva on her heels throughout the three-round contest. While she wasn’t able to get the knockout, Fiorot outlanded her opponent in lopsided fashion with the judges scoring the fight 30-26, 30-27 and 30-27 in her favor.
“I’m a little disappointed cause I really wanted the finish,” Fiorot said about her latest victory. “I think she has a very high level in striking. I’m very happy to win.”
With a vast background in various striking arts, Fiorot was constantly firing combinations, throwing several punches in succession while headhunting on Silva. While Silva defended well, she was fending off so many strikes from Fiorot that she barely had time to throw much of anything in return.
Fiorot also mixed in a couple of takedown attempts to keep Silva guessing and as well as a few side kicks to the body that were also effective. That said, Silva wasn’t taking too much damage as she started moving forward with a little more aggression in an attempt to close the distance where Fiorot was doing all of her striking.
While Silva was letting Fiorot know that she wasn’t doing a lot of damage, the Brazilian spent too much time taunting rather than producing any significant offense.
None of it rattled Fiorot, fired off punches and kicks with little fear of repercussion as she tallied a huge amount of strikes by the time the final round was winding down.
Now 8-1 in her career, Fiorot could be a future contender in the flyweight division, which is something sorely needed as reigning champion Valentina Shevchenko has looked almost unstoppable since claiming the title at 125 pounds.
