Conor McGregor has a long road to recovery following the ghastly leg injury he suffered at UFC 264. However, he continues to make progress and he took another key step forward this week.
Things have been going well for the former two-division UFC champion when it comes to his recovery following surgery to repair fractures in his leg. A few weeks ago, McGregor (22-9) updated fans via his Instagram about the positive news he learned during a recent visit to his orthopedist, and how his recovery was “well ahead of schedule.” on Monday, the Irishman posted a new video of him taking first steps since the surgery — with the help of an anti-gravity treadmill.
Conor McGregor takes first steps since leg surgery
“Notorious” fractured his leg during the first round of his July trilogy bout with hated rival Dustin Poirier (28-6). Following a kick attempt late in the round, the 33-year-old’s limb buckled under him after trying to plant his weight on it. The injury wasn’t noticed at first by the referee, and the round continued for close to a minute. However, in between rounds when the Irishman could not stand back up, the Octagon side doctor called an end to the action immediately.
The referee awarded Poirier a technical knockout victory, handed McGregor a second straight defeat to the American, and the setback meant he had lost three of his last four fights inside the Octagon.
Following the bout, the Irishman claimed in an Instagram post that the UFC knew of “fractures” in his ankle before the fight and that the injury had been something he’s dealt with even before he began his fight camp for a third fight with Poirier, at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada.
The week after the fight, UFC President Dana White stated he expects McGregor to be out of action until 2022.
McGregor has kept himself busy in recent weeks with attack tweets aimed at various stars in the industry. Including Poirier, former two-division champion Daniel Cormier, and one-time middleweight titleholder Michael Bisping.
