After getting pushed in her debut, Victoria Lee is seeking a flawless performance against Wang Luping.
Lee (1-0) takes on Luping (3-0) in the opening bout at ONE Championship: Battleground, which takes place Friday at Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Younger sister of ONE atomweight champion Angela Lee and ONE lightweight champ Christian Lee, the 16-year-old has had a lot to live up to. Although she was able to submit Sunisa Srisen in the second round at ONE Championship 129 in February, Lee says she experienced some jitters when competing.
“In my first match, the initial game plan was to go in there and strike – entry, take her down, and finish her in the first round as fast as possible,” Lee told MMA Junkie Radio. “But I think the whole nerves and everything kind of got caught up to me in that first match, and I had to shake it off and then restart, hit the reset button and do it again in the second round. My coaches have helped me. We’ve been doing multiple starts in training to simulate that, and going into my next match, I think I’ll be able to do the whole game plan and finish a lot faster this time around.”
She takes on Luping, who’s won three in a row. Lee admits she doesn’t know much about her opponent, but after getting the nerves out of her system from her debut, she’s confident she can put on an even better showing.
“I don’t know much about this opponent, Wang Luping,” Lee said. “All I know is that she’s got a 3-2 record. Similar to may last opponent, she has more experience than me, but that’s OK. I’m just training hard and focusing on improving my skills, and I’ll be ready for this match.
“I actually haven’t been able to find any footage of her because I believe she fights out of Chinese promotions. They don’t release much of their videos, so I haven’t been able to watch her fights. … I’ve heard she’s an aggressive striker, so I guess we’ll just have to see – see how our styles match up.”
