Stipe Miocic angry he’s not getting automatic rematch with Francis Ngannou, teases interest in ONE Championship

Stipe Miocic believes he should be fighting Francis Ngannou next and he’s not happy about waiting for a trilogy with the series tied between them at one win a piece.

The former UFC heavyweight champion expressed his frustrations in an Instagram post made by ONE Championship CEO Chatri Sityodtong asking about who he should sign next to the Asian based promotion. In response, Miocic dropped a number of the “thinking face” emojis, which of course resulted in a flurry of responses.

When one fan mused about Miocic getting the winner of Ngannou’s next fight, which will presumably come against the winner of the upcoming interim title bout between Ciryl Gane and Derrick Lewis, the Ohio native explained why he’s angry about that scenario.

“I shouldn’t have to wait for a winner,” Miocic wrote. “I have the most heavyweight title defenses of all time. We’re 1-1 but [Daniel Cormier] got instant rematches and trilogies against me?”

Miocic referenced his previous trilogy with Cormier where they battled back and forth in a series of three consecutive fights. Ultimately, Miocic vanquished Cormier with back-to-back wins before dropping his title to Ngannou via second-round knockout back in March.

Obviously, Miocic doesn’t think he should be made to wait for another shot at Ngannou, especially considering the lopsided win he holds over the current UFC heavyweight champion from their first encounter in 2018.

On that night, Miocic dominated Ngannou for the better part of five rounds to win a unanimous decision before “The Predator” exacted his revenge in the rematch.

Since Ngannou won the title, he was supposed to clash with Lewis to defend his belt but that matchup was scrapped after the Cameroon native was unable to compete in August and the UFC decided to introduce an interim championship instead.

Regardless, Miocic feels like he’s being made to wait instead of facing Ngannou immediately to settle their trilogy once and for all.

As far as his interest in ONE Championship, it remains to be seen if Miocic is actually serious or just dropping the note to drum up interest and bring attention to his frustrations over the heavyweight title picture in the UFC.

For his part, reigning ONE heavyweight champion Arjan Bhullar welcomed the challenge if Miocic was serious about switching organizations and he even suggested an athlete swap similar to the deal that sent Ben Askren to the UFC and brought Demetrious Johnson to ONE Championship.

“I see you,” Bhullar said. “Nothing to think about get your ass out here. I bust you up everywhere and finish the job for my big brother D.C. Boss man [Chatri Sityodtong], let’s do a trade.”
