Former NFL player Chad Johnson faces BKFC veteran Brian Maxwell on Mayweather vs. Paul card

It appears the upcoming card featuring Floyd Mayweather vs. Logan Paul in the main event will be adding even more celebrity star power.

Former NFL wide receiver Chad “Ochocinco” aka Chad Johnson will be crossing over into boxing for a match against BKFC veteran Brian Maxwell on the June 6 with the event airing live on Showtime pay-per-view.

Johnson was previously announced for the card with BKFC officials then confirming Maxwell would be his opponent on Thursday.

At 43, the retired football player will be making his debut in the boxing ring after spending 11 seasons in the NFL, primarily playing for the Cincinnati Bengals. There he set numerous team records including most career receptions, receiving yards and receiving touchdowns.

Johnson trained for several years at Mayweather’s boxing club during the offseason when he was an active NFL player and he’s remained a combat sports enthusiast ever since. He’s even made appearances at past UFC press conference including the recent event in Jacksonville, Fla., where he asked welterweight title contender Jorge Masvidal questions as part of the media.

Johnson will be competing in an exhibition bout as part of the Mayweather vs. Paul card.

As for Maxwell, he comes into the fight with experience in mixed martial arts, boxing and bare knuckle fighting as well. He’s had three appearances in the BKFC ring, losing his first two fights to Jared Warren and Uly Diaz by knockout and then suffering a unanimous decision loss to Tee Cummins in his most recent appearance.

The fight between Johnson and Maxwell will be featured on the main card for the pay-per-view, which will see Mayweather and Paul meet in an exhibition bout in the headliner for the event.
