Paul, Askren Trade Shots During Official Staredown

MMA news

Jake Paul and Ben Askren came face-to-face for the first time earlier today ahead of their ridiculous PPV boxing match this April and things quickly started to heat up.

Paul, who took the combat sports world by storm in 2020 with his highlight-reel knockout finish over former NBA player Nate Robinson (see it HERE), is desperately trying to prove that he has the chops to launch a legitimate boxing career. While Paul does have some serious skill inside of the ring the YouTube sensation hasn’t fought anybody with real fighting experience up until now.

Askren, who last competed under the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) banner in 2019, is hoping to come out of retirement and teach Paul a lesson about combat sports. While “Funky” was known for his wresting pedigree and ground skills as a MMA fighter he’s the most legit opponent Paul has faced to date.

The two fighters finally met earlier tonight during the official pre-fight press conference (replay HERE) and they delivered one scathing toe-to-toe staredown. After some brief chatter Askren put his hand on Paul’s face as he walked away. Paul responded with a hard right hook to the body followed by a shove in the back. It was pretty intense. Check it out above.

Paul vs. Askren will headline a complete boxing card that will go down on Apr. 17 live on FITE pay-per-view from inside Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia. Former UFC heavyweight champion Frank Mir will also be in action (details HERE).
