UFC 259 is right around the corner on March 6th, 2021, and if the UFC was still giving their card one word power-names like they were in the first decade of the 00’s — VENDETTA, PAYBACK, FURY — this card would be STACKED. Three title fights, and the ‘weakest’ of them featuring the women’s GOAT of MMA, Amanda Nunes? Pretty great.
The big diss surrounding the Nunes fight is it’s in the notoriously thin women’s featherweight division against a pretty outgunned opponent. Megan Anderson is coming into this bout a staggering +800 underdog to Nunes’ -1000 favorite (-1500 on some sportsbooks). Those are the kind of numbers we haven’t seen in title fights since Ronda Rousey ruled the women’s bantamweight division.
And hey, when Ronda was wrecking her way through six title defenses, we didn’t mind too much that the women she faced had little chance. We just enjoyed the carnage. So if we aren’t giving Megan much of a chance, maybe that’s the way we should appreciate Amanda Nunes’ second defense of the 145 pound belt at UFC 258.
As a reminder of how much fun it is to watch Amanda rip through competition, the UFC has uploaded her destruction of Rousey from UFC 207 back in December of 2016. Enjoy.
