As with most defending champions, Islam Makhachev and Merab Dvalishvili will be donning custom fight shorts for their respective title fights at the upcoming UFC 311 pay-per-view (PPV) event, locked and loaded for this Sat. night (Jan. 18, 2025) at Intuit Dome in Los Angeles, California.

The quote on Dvalishvili’s shorts translates to “better a glorious death than a shameful life,” according to combat sports reporter Giorgi Kokiashvili, lifted from Shota Rustaveli’s medieval poem, “The Knight in the Tiger’s Skin.”

I guess a glorious life was too much to ask for in those days.
