Lewis Plummets In Latest UFC Rankings Update

Derrick Lewis is a former heavyweight title challenger with the promotion’s record for knockout victories, but “The Black Beast” continues to struggle in the twilight of his MMA career and is now the loser of three straight and four of his last five, getting finished in all four losses. That includes his first-round submission defeat at the hands of Serghei Spivac in the UFC Vegas 68 main event last weekend in Las Vegas, which helped “The Polar Bear” crack the division Top 10 but sent “The Black Beast” tumbling down to the No. 10 spot.

Here’s how UFC compiles its official rankings:

Rankings were generated by a voting panel made up of media members. The media members were asked to vote for who they feel are the top fighters in the UFC by weight-class and pound-for-pound. A fighter is only eligible to be voted on if they are in active status in the UFC. A fighter can appear in more than one weight division at a time. The champion and interim champion are considered to be in the top positions of their respective divisions and therefore are not eligible for voting by weight-class. However, the champions can be voted on for the pound-for-pound rankings.
