Phil Baroni arrested in Mexico for allegedly murdering girlfriend
Former UFC fighter Phil Baroni has been arrested in Mexico and charged with homicide for allegedly murdering his girlfriend in a hotel room.
Mexican news outlet Tribuna De La Bahia first reported the news. According to the report, Baroni, 46, flagged down law enforcement in the neighborhood of the hotel and told them that his girlfriend was unconscious and needed help.
When police arrived at the hotel room, they discovered a nude woman on a bed covered in a sheet with no vital signs. After examining the female, they noticed injuries, bruises to her face and body.
When questioned by authorities, Baroni told the police that around 3 p.m., while smoking marijuana and drinking a beer, that his girlfriend revealed that she had sex with another man. Baroni demanded that she shower but she refused. It was then that Baroni said that he threw her in the shower where she fell and hit her head.
Baroni stated that he helped the 46-year old female to her feet and assisted her to the bed. She asked him for the bed sheet because she was cold and also requested a cigarette and a beer, both of which Baroni provided.
When Baroni returned to the bed he discovered that she was unconscious and had no vital signs after trying to wake her. He was arrested by the State Tourist Police and is being held by the Municipal Court of Valle De Banderas.
Baroni (16-19) last fought in 2019 in China for the Rebel FC Middleweight Championship. He was defeated by Sai Wang. ‘The New York Badass’ fought in the UFC from 2001 until 2005. He was released after losing four consecutive bouts. After competing in PRIDE, Strikeforce and Elite XC, Baroni returned to the UFC for two more fights. He lost both of them.
