Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returns to its APEX facility in Las Vegas, Nevada, for the UFC Vegas 63 mixed martial arts (MMA) event TONIGHT (Sat., Oct. 29, 2022), streaming LIVE on ESPN+. UFC Vegas 63 will be headlined by the 145-pound showdown between Top 10 featherweight contenders Calvin Kattar and Arnold Allen. Before that five-round clash of styles gets underway, veteran welterweight Max Griffin looks to bounce back into the win column by turning away 170-pound “Dirty Bird” Tim Means in the UFC Vegas 63 co-main event. Elsewhere on the card, Dustin Jacoby and Khalil Rountree go to war at light heavyweight not long after Andrei Arlovski and Marcos Rogerio de Lima collide at 265 pounds.

Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) returns to UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada, on Sat., Oct. 29, 2022, with an action-packed Featherweight headliner between top-ranked division contenders Calvin Kattar and Arnold Allen. Round 1: Garcia landing heavy left hands right off the bat. One clearly hurdts Hooper, and when Hooper stands agian, another left drops him hard. Garcia waves him up and slams home a leg kick, then drops him with another straight left. He’s not willing to follow him down, so he legs him up again. Hooper somehow still throwing with him, trying to land spinning back fists and getting clipped. Another counter left by Garcia floors Hooper yet again and a few hammerfists polish him off.

Final result: Garcia def. Hooper by TKO (punches)


125 lbs.: Cody Durden vs. Carlos Mota

Round 1: Stiff jab from Durden. Mota stalking forward. Huge 1-2 from Durden and he bowls Mota over into side control. One minute in. Mota looking for guard. Durden postures up for a hard right hand and has to fight out of an armbar-triangle sequence two minutes in. Half guard for Durden. Two minutes to go.

Short right hands. Now he postures up for some bigger shots. Half butterfly, now full guard with a minute to go. Durden postures up late, lands an elbow. 10-9 Durden.

Round 2: Durden shoots, denied. Mota lands a body jab, then one to the head. Durden hunting a single-leg, switches to a double. He drives hard and downs Mota a minute in. Full guard. Mota considers an armbar, nothing there. Durden chipping away against the fence. Two minutes to go.

Mota not doing much off of his back. As I type that, he wraps up an armbar. Durden stacks him and drops an elbow after getting free. One minute to go. Mota considers another armbar, still nothing. Durden lands some more short GnP in response. 10-9 Durden.

Round 3: Low kicks for Durden to start. Mota fires body shots, tries to limp-leg out of a shot, and tries a rolling kneebar when Durden keeps his grip. Durden looking for the back, one hook in a minute in. Both hooks, body triangle two minutes in. Durden attempts to flatten him out. More attempts. Mota turns into top guard with two minutes to go and waves Durden to his feet.

Mota stalking, denies the initial shot, but Durden drives through and avoids another rolling leglock attempt. One minute to go. Awkward position. Mota swats him with a surprisingly hard hammerfists and they thump each other from an odd sort of 50/50. Mota tries a last-ditch leglock, then cracks Durden with a last-second body shot. 10-9 Durden.

Final result: Durden def. Mota by unanimous decision


135 lbs.: Christian Rodriguez vs. Joshua Weems

Round 1: Rodriguez lands a clubbing left as they trade in the center. Weems mobile as usual. Quick exchanges. Body kick from Weems met by a spinning back fist. Another Weems body kick. Rodriguez herding him to the fence a minute in. 1-2. Quick counter right. Rodriguez tries a flying knee and ties up. Weems elbows. He reverses, lands another elbow, and looks to change levels two minutes in. Rodriguez sneaks in an elbow as they jockey for position. Nice trip by Weems puts him on top. Rodriguez spins to his feet, avoiding a front headlock. Quick two-piece from Weems into another level change. Two minutes to go.

Weems pulls guard. Rodriguez stands over him, avoids an upkick, and lets him up. Spinning elbow attempt by Rodriguez gives Weems the body lock and Weems scores another takedown. This time, though, Rodriguez is in position for a guillotine, and he switches to an anaconda as he sweeps into top position. He slowly rotates and tightens it up until Weems taps.

Final result: Rodriguez def. Weems by submission (anaconda choke)
