Newly crowned UFC welterweight champion Leon Edwards‘ journey from poverty to world champion is nothing short of inspirational.

Edwards scored a walk-off knockout win over Kamaru Usman in the UFC 278 main event on Saturday to capture the 170-pound championship.

Born in humble conditions in Jamaica, Edwards and his family migrated to England. His mother signed him up at a mixed martial arts gym to keep him out of trouble, and the rest his history. His journey was long, and improbable, but that didn’t stop him from achieving a world championship.

Following his dramatic win over Usman, Edwards gave an emotionally charged interview with commentator Joe Rogan.
