Marlon Vera: ‘I feel I’m the best fighter in the world right now’
No. 5 ranked bantamweight contender Marlon Vera takes on former two-time bantamweight champion Dominick Cruz in the UFC San Diego main event on Saturday.
With the fight just a couple of days away, Vera feels good. In fact, ‘Chito’ believes that he’s the best bantamweight in the world.
“I’m ready to go. I feel good with myself. I feel great with all the work I’ve put into this moment,” Vera said during Wednesday’s UFC San Diego Media Day. “I can lie to everybody, but I can never lie to myself. I know how ready I am and the type of work I put in for this fight. I feel I’m the best in the world right now, and I can be a world champion on any night. I’m ready to show that Saturday night.
Vera criticized some aspects of Cruz’ career, but said that he respects ‘The Dominator’ as a fighter. Criticism aside, Vera said that he doesn’t fight with emotion and will not on Saturday.
“I just speak the truth. I keep it real. I don’t think fighting is a pretty thing. I’m not in here to shake hands, or bow to each other,” Vera said. “I ain’t mad at nobody. I really have no emotion to anybody I’ve ever fought. But when they give me a contract with a name, and we get locked in the cage, I’m going to f**k you up. Simple.”
Vera is looking to make headlines with his performance against Cruz. When asked what the headlines will say after the fight, Vera quickly responded.
“Epic finish,” he said.
