Anthony Smith to require surgery after breaking ankle at UFC 277
Former light heavyweight title challenger Anthony Smith suffered a broken ankle in his UFC 277 loss to Magomed Ankalaev and will require surgery.
Smith broke the news to Ariel Helwani on Monday.
Anthony Smith suffered a broken left ankle Saturday night in his fight against Magomed Ankalaev, Smith tells me this evening. It will require surgery.

The two fighters kicked off the UFC 277 main card this past Saturday. The injury occurred during the opening round. Following round 1, Smith told his corner that he had injured his leg. Smith was stopped in the second frame due to strikes.
Following the fight, Smith informed members of the Texas Athletic Commission that he thought that he broke his left leg. He was carried from the octagon and transported to a local hospital.
