Henry Cejudo thinks Deiveson Figueiredo’s win over Brandon Moreno was more definitive than the scorecards indicated.
Figueiredo (21-2-1 MMA, 9-2-1 UFC) reclaimed the flyweight title by defeating Moreno (19-5-2 MMA, 7-2-2 UFC) by unanimous decision at UFC 270 on Saturday. All three judges scored it 48-47 in his favor.
But Cejudo thinks Moreno only won one round and that the Moreno-heavy crowd in Anaheim likely influenced the judges. If the pair was to fight for a fourth time, Cejudo is against the idea of having it in Mexico City.
“Four rounds to one,” Cejudo said on “The Triple C & Schmo Show.” “Brandon Moreno only won that second round, but this is why I told him, ‘You’ve got to be careful, dude.’ That’s why when he had mentioned Mexico City, I’m like, ‘No.’ He throws one punch and ‘Ahhhh!’. I was like, ‘No, you’re the champ now. You pick.’ So that’s why it’s going to be Wallid’s (Ismail) job to make sure that he takes this thing to Brazil, and we’re going to make it happen.
“We saw how they had the scorecard. Deiveson knocked him down almost in every round. That’s a 10-9 automatically.”
Despite Cejudo helping Figueiredo regain his throne, the fight was too close for his liking. With rumblings of a potential fourth fight already commencing, Cejudo wants to ensure that Figueiredo is able to put the nail in the coffin of his rivalry with Moreno.
“Ironically, I’m going to have to give him a B+, and the only reason I give him a B+ is because there’s so much room for him to get better,” Cejudo said. “So we’re going to watch the fight tonight and be like, these are the areas that if you become more aggressive or you start seeing him more, it’s going to take it to a whole other level where I say you’re not going to be going to a decision, a split decision, you’re going to be stopping them – because that’s the goal. The goal is not to win. The goal is to start killing these dudes – like, put them away. There’s no doubt.”
