Glover Teixeira vs Jiri Prochazka for the UFC light heavyweight title will headline the promotion’s pay-per-view event in May.
ESPN’s Brett Okamoto was first to report that reigning 205-pound champion Teixeira (33-7) will defend his recently won championship for the first time and look to extend his win streak to seven when he takes on the challenge of former Rizin light heavyweight king Prochazka (28-3) in the main event of UFC 274.
“The Brazilian champ officially has his next assignment. Glover Teixeira (@gloverteixeira) vs. Jiri Prochazka (@jiri_bjp) is a go for UFC 274 on May 7. Tough first title defense, but Glover’s entire road to this title has been tough,” Okamoto wrote via his Twitter account.

The May 7 card is expected to take place in the champion’s home country of Brazil, in the city of Rio de Janeiro.
Teixeira won the division title in Oct. at UFC 267, beating Polish star Jan Blachowicz by second-round submission. The win ended the champion’s title reign in his second defense. The victory also made the Brazilian the oldest UFC fighter to have ever won a light heavyweight title at 42-years-old.
The bout was Teixeira’s second bid at the title after falling short to former champion Jon Jones in April of 2014.
“Denisa” is in the midst of a major win streak of his own having scored victories in his last 12 bouts. This includes his first two forays into the Octagon. Both of those ended in second-round knockouts against former title challengers Volkan Oezdemir in July 2020, and Dominick Reyes in May 2021.
