UFC on ESPN 32 post-event facts: Katlyn Chookagian sets dubious decision record

The first UFC event of the year took place Saturday with UFC on ESPN 32 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.

A 10-fight card that was ravaged by lineup changes ultimately concluded with a strong performance from Calvin Kattar (23-5 MMA, 7-3 UFC), who returned from a career-long layoff to battle Giga Chikadze (14-3 MMA, 7-1 UFC) en route to a unanimous decision in the matchup of featherweight contenders.

Event stats

The UFC Promotional Guidelines Compliance payout for the event totaled $132,000.

Debuting fighters went 1-2 at the event.

Kattar, Chikadze, Jake Collier and Viacheslav Borshchev earned $50,000 UFC on ESPN 32 fight-night bonuses.

The UFC sold VIP tickets to fans for UFC on ESPN 32, but the promotion did not make public the total number of tickets sold or the gate.

Betting favorites went 6-4 on the card.

Betting favorites fell to 0-1 in UFC headliners this year.

Total fight time for the 10-bout card was 2:16:13.

Kattar improved to 2-2 in UFC main events.

Chikadze has suffered two of his three career losses by decision.

Jake Collier def. Chase Sherman

Collier  (13-5 MMA, 5-5 UFC) has alternated wins and losses over his past 11 fights.

Collier improved to 2-2 since he moved up to the UFC heavyweight division in July 2020.

Collier has earned nine of his 13 career victories by stoppage.

Chase Sherman (13-9 MMA, 3-8 UFC) fell to 1-3 since he returned to the UFC for a second stint in May 2020.

Sherman suffered the first submission loss of his career.

Katlyn Chookagian (17-4 MMA, 10-4 UFC) improved to 8-3 since she dropped to the UFC flyweight division in January 2018.

Chookagian’s eight victories in UFC women’s flyweight competition are tied with Valentina Shevchenko for most in divisional history.

Chookagian has earned 14 of her 17 career victories by decision. That includes all 10 of her UFC wins.

Chookagian became the first fighter in UFC history to earn her first 10 octagon victories by decision.

Jennifer Maia (19-8-1 MMA, 4-4 UFC) has suffered all four of her UFC losses by decision.

Borshchev (6-1 MMA, 1-0 UFC) has earned five of his six career victories by stoppage. He’s finished all of those wins by knockout.

Dakota Bush (8-4 MMA, 0-2 UFC) suffered consecutive losses for the first time in his career.

Bush suffered the first stoppage loss of his career with a knockout defeat.

Bill Algeo (15-6 MMA, 2-2 UFC) has earned both of his UFC victories by decision.

Joanderson Brito (12-3-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) had his 12-fight winning streak snapped for his first defeat since December 2015.

Brito suffered the first decision loss of his career.

Jamie Pickett (13-6 MMA, 2-2 UFC) has earned both of his UFC victories by decision.

Joseph Holmes (7-2 MMA, 0-1 UFC) has suffered both of his career losses by decision.

Court McGee (21-10 MMA, 10-9 UFC) earned consecutive UFC victories for the first time since August 2013.

McGee improved to 7-7 since he dropped to the welterweight division in February 2013.

McGee has earned eight of his 10 UFC victories by decision.

Ramiz Brahimaj (9-4 MMA, 1-2 UFC) has suffered three of his four career losses by decision.

TJ Brown (16-8 MMA, 2-2 UFC) has earned both of his UFC victories by decision.

Charles Rosa (14-7 MMA, 5-7 UFC) suffered consecutive losses for the first time in his career. He’s alternated victories and defeats over his previous 12 fights.

Rosa has suffered six of his seven career losses by decision.
