A lightweight matchup pitting top-15 talents in Rafael Dos Anjos vs Rafael Fiziev has reportedly been agreed to.
MMA Instagram account Full Violence reported on a Thursday night that a battle of Rafaels in dos Anjos (30-13) vs Fiziev (11-1) “is a done deal, per sources.” A date or location was not given in the post.
The idea of a matchup between the sixth and eleventh ranked 155-pounders gained some traction this past Saturday when the former lightweight champion tweeted at one-time opponent Tony Ferguson and asked the former division titlist, “do you have any plans for February 19? I gave UFC greenlight on my end.”
Rafael Dos Anjos vs Rafael Fiziev reportedly ‘a done deal’
Ferguson responded to the inquiry by checking with his “secretary” and leaving the Brazilian on Twitter hold. Seeing the opportunity in front of him, Fiziev jumped into the conversation and tweeted at RDA by saying, “We all saw that fight and I already replied to UFC that I’m available for that day.” Ferguson and dos Anjos fought in November 2020, in the headliner of a Mexico City Fight Night card. Ferguson won the bout by unanimous decision.
“Ataman” did not end his campaign for a fight with dos Anjos there. He posted a video on Twitter the next day asking for the pair to compete in a battle to see who is the best Rafael in the UFC.
“Rafa, Rafa, Rafael. Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, but today is a gift. That’s why it’s called the present. Let’s find out who is the best Rafa in the UFC,” Fiziev said.
