Ranked UFC bantamweight Sean O’Malley thinks Tyron Woodley’s shocking knockout loss to Jake Paul destroyed his combat sports legacy.

Woodley (19-7-1) had a distinguished run in MMA. He was a welterweight champion in both Strikeforce and the UFC, and will likely go down as one of the best 170-pound fighters in Octagon history. However, his recent two-fight foray into boxing as a foil for Jake Paul has been disastrous. The YouTuber turned pugilist has beaten “The Chosen One” twice in 2021, and the rematch this past weekend ended with a faceplant KO loss for Woodley.

Some now wonder if the consecutive setbacks in boxing — along with four straight defeats in the UFC — have permanently changed the narrative on Woodley’s career. One person who thinks this most recent defeat was extremely damaging to the Missouri native’s legacy is O’Malley (15-1). The popular, multi-color-haired bantamweight thinks being knocked out cold by Paul permanently ruined a respected career in fight sports.

Sean O’Malley says Tyron Woodley’s legacy ‘destroyed’ by Jake Paul KO loss

“It completely destroyed his f*cking legacy,” O’Malley said in a new video posted to his Sugar Sean YouTube channel.

In “Sugar’s” opinion, while Woodley’s legacy is forever changed, he does believe he can still lead a happy life mentally, if he can detach from the disappointment of losing to a 5-0 boxer who just started training three years ago.

“That comes back to attachment too. That could affect Tyron Woodley big time or he could just be completely unattached to that but still be happy. That’s a f*cking skill that you have to acquire,” said O’Malley.

O’Malley is impressed by what Paul has been able to do in a short amount of time

However, the conversation wasn’t all about Woodley’s stunning defeat. O’Malley also made a point to explain how impressed he’s been with Paul’s growth as a fighter in a short amount of time. And how self-belief and hard work have helped him to quickly become one of the biggest names in combat sports.

“He just started boxing not too long ago. Kinda manifesting these big fights, and how much self-belief and manifesting can get you what you want. But with that, just as important is hard work,” he said. “Obviously, for him to be boxing three years and go and knockout Tyron Woodley; that means he’s been in the gym very consistently, improving, has a good mindset going into a fight. That’s pretty cool to see.”

Do you agree with O’Malley, and Woodley’s legacy has now been destroyed by his KO loss to Paul?
