Glover Teixeira completed his unlikely run to the light heavyweight championship on Saturday, defeating Jan Blachowicz by submission.
The 42-year old Brazilian first fought for the 205-pound title seven years ago and came up short against then champion Jon Jones. On Saturday, UFC president Dana White strapped the belt around his waist.
Blachowicz landed first with a hard leg kick. Teixeira quickly changed levels and put Blachowicz on his back. Teixeira delivered punches and elbows to the body and head inside the closed guard of Blachowicz. Teixeira spent nearly the duration of the round in top position easily winning the opening frame.
