Nick Diaz (26-9) has not officially won an MMA fight since 2011, but his return to the Octagon in a rematch against former UFC welterweight champion Robbie Lawler (28-15) on the main card of UFC 266 makes Lawler vs Diaz II one of the most highly-anticipated fights of the entire event.
Looking at the histories of the men behind Lawler vs Diaz II at UFC 266
Diaz, 38, earned a reputation as one of the sport’s most entertaining fighters in the 2000s and 2010s across Strikeforce, PRIDE FC, Elite XC, and the UFC. He challenged for the UFC interim and undisputed welterweight titles in his heyday, against Carlos Condit and the legendary Georges St-Pierre, respectively. He has also competed against future Hall-of-Famers in BJ Penn, Anderson Silva, and Diego Sanchez.
Having not fought since 2015, Stockton’s own faces a difficult comeback in the form of Robbie Lawler.
Lawler, 39, is on a four-fight losing skid dating back to 2017. Since losing his title to recent Jake Paul foe Tyron Woodley in 2016, the California native has been a shell of the fighter that won five straight fights from 2014 to 2016 over former champions and contenders like Johny Hendricks, Rory MacDonald, and Condit.
Both men will look to regain their past form in what will be a rematch of their 2004 UFC clash, which Diaz won by technical knockout.
