If Conor McGregor ever ends up in the ring with Machine Gun Kelly, oddsmakers believe he doesn’t have much to worry about.
McGregor and Kelly were involved in a physical altercation Sunday night at the MTV Video Music Awards in New York. The fighter and the rapper were quickly separated, but the hint of a clash between the two has already led to speculation that they could meet in a regulated contest in the future.
Betting site Bovada has set opening odds for a fight between McGregor and Kelly with McGregor heavily favored at -5000 and Kelly a +1000 underdog. The bout is listed under “Entertainment – Celebrity Boxing.”
For betting purposes, a $5000 bet on McGregor would be required to win $100, while a $100 bet on Kelly would yield a return of $1,000. The -5000 reflects an implied winning probability of 98.04 percent, while +1000 has a 9.09 percent probability.
The massive disparity in odds should come as no surprise to fight fans—the only surprise may be that it isn’t wider—given McGregor’s accomplishments inside the octagon. Despite his recent struggles, McGregor remains the UFC’s biggest star and has held championships in two divisions for the promotion.
Kelly has no combat sports experience.
A bout between McGregor and Kelly, or anyone else for that matter, will not be happening anytime soon. “The Notorious” is expected to be out of action until 2022 as he recovers from a broken leg suffered in his recent fight against Dustin Poirier at UFC 264 this past July.
