We may soon get a better idea of Jorge Masvidal’s next fight in the coming weeks, based on recent comments from the star welterweights manager.
Many have wondered when two-time Ultimate Fighting Championship welterweight title challenger Jorge Masvidal (35-15) will next step into the Octagon. Fans of the sport have not seen the 36-year-old since his second straight title fight loss to current division king Kamaru Usman in April at UFC 261. However, the Cuban fighter’s manager Malki Kawa informed MMAJunkie recently that he expects to have an idea on “Gamebred’s” next fight after they meet with UFC brass in Las Vegas at some point in the next couple weeks.

“We’re just trying to see what the next steps are. There’s so many options there. We just got to get out to Vegas and meet with the UFC, and we are planning on doing that after the [Paul vs. Woodley fight week],” said Kawa. “Hopefully, in the next two weeks, we can get out there and see what’s going on with him. We’re looking for the fight that makes the most sense to get his way back to a title. All this, ‘Oh he ducked this guy and ducked that guy.’ Masvidal’s not ducking anyone.”
Masvidal has been called out by several fighters in the last couple of months. Including second-ranked former title challenger Gilbert Burns and YouTube star turned boxer Jake Paul. In recent interviews and Tweets, the UFC veteran has admitted his interest in a fight with Burns or another top-five talent in Leon Edwards. It also seems that the barrage of callouts from all angles bothered Masvidal enough that he asked his representation if he should take a fight soon. However, Kawa advised against the move.
“Listen, Masvidal asked me if he should fight, after all the talk that started happening. And I said, ‘stay home bro.’”
Masvidal, who is currently ranked at six on the MixedMartialArts.com welterweight rankings, is 3-2 in his last five bouts since 2019.
