Manel Kape did not have a good finish to his UFC 265 fight week when he missed weight by 3 pounds. However, his fight against Ode Osbourne ended in a positively outstanding fashion.
Manel Kape scores flying knee KO at UFC 265
The first round of Kape and Osbourne was an entertaining affair as the pair of speedy flyweights felt each other out with varied strikes. For much of the round, it seemed like “The Jamaican Sensation” was getting the better of the former Rizin champion. Defending his kicks well and landing solid punches on Kape.
However, that all changed with 20 seconds left in the round as Osbourne walked down his opponent. “Starboy” leapt forward with a knee that Osbourne defended by dipping his head down into the strike and took all of the blow right to his head. It floored the 29-year-old immediately. Surprisingly, he wasn’t completely knocked out from the strike, but badly hurt. Kape pounced, landed a ground-and-pound barrage, and forced the referee stoppage with 16 seconds left in the frame.
The knockout win was Kape’s first inside the Octagon, following back-to-back losses to start his UFC run. It’s also the 27-year-olds tenth knockout in 16 wins.
For Dana White’s Contender Series alum Osbourne, he moves to 1-2 in the UFC and loses by KO for the first time in his career.
