Veteran Ultimate Fighting Championship middleweight Sean Strickland is one half of the UFC Vegas 33 main event on July 31. With this unique spotlight in his first UFC headlining role far more eyes are on him and his social accounts than ever before. And fans recently discovered that the 30-year-old has a long-held regret about not killing a man with a shotgun when he had the chance.

In an Instagram Story post (the date of which is unclear), which was then reposted by a fan on Twitter [h/t BJPeen], Strickland revealed an incident of self-defense that led to him having a shotgun pointed at another person, and the only thing that stopped him from pulling the trigger was the fear of jail time.
“For those who were wondering how I almost killed a man,” Strickland started the video by saying. “I’m at this gathering, and I’m probably running my mouth being an idiot, next thing I know a guy f*cking puts a shot gun to my head. So, my dumbass punches him in the face. He falls down, I take the gun and at that moment, I’m like contemplating, if I shoot this mother f*cker in the head, is there any legal defense to it? Sadly, I looked around and there’s f*cking witnesses. I thought, if I kill this man I’m gonna go to prison. So, I unload the gun, I gave it back to him and I walked away.”
The video plays like an intimate confession from the 13-fight UFC vet. As he explains his dark desires to have shot the gunman, and watched his “head splatter.”
“Moral of the story is, you almost f*cking die, and every day I regret the fact there were witnesses and I couldn’t f*cking shoot you,” said Strickland. “But I also forgive you. I would have f*cking smoked him and enjoyed every moment of watching his head splatter but there’s no legal defense on shooting an unarmed man on his knees begging for his life. I’m not angry. I am one of the happiest human beings you will ever meet. Like every day I wake up [and] I am super grateful for life. Like, you can shoot someone in the head and not be angry. If anything, it could be enjoyable.”
The eleventh-ranked Strickland takes on eighth-ranked Uriah Hall in the main event of UFC Vegas 33 on Saturday night. The event emanates from the UFC Apex in Las Vegas, Nevada. The card starts at 6 pm ET with preliminary action, then shifts to the main card matchups at 9 pm ET. The event will be simulcast on both ESPN and ESPN+.
