UFC 264 press conference with Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier goes down July 8 at 8 pm ET
Conor McGregor and Dustin Poirier’s first in-person close-up before UFC 264 is finally here.
Just days away from the biggest fight of 2021, the top-ranked lightweights will go nose to nose at the event’s final press conference. It will be the pair’s first encounter since they left Abu Dhabi following UFC 257 six months ago. Yesterday, the promotion featured media day pressers with much of the talent competing on the preliminary and main card portions of the event. Saving the main event participants for a press event all to themselves.
You can watch the final UFC 264 press conference tonight (July 8) at 8 pm ET via the embedded video above.
The rivalry between McGregor (22-5) and Poirier (27-6) dates back to 2014 when the Irishman starched “Diamond” in a UFC 178 featherweight matchup that lasted less than two minutes. McGregor would go on to superstardom and become the UFCs first simultaneous two-division champion at 145 and 155 pounds, respectively. Beating gifted fighters like Eddie Alvarez and Jose Aldo on his path to becoming the biggest name in the sport.
Poirier, 32, had a longer road to becoming an elite talent in the promotion. After a solid run at featherweight, Poirier moved up to lightweight and scored marquee wins over Alvarez, Justin Gaethje, and Max Holloway in route to becoming the UFC interim lightweight champion.
The two former division champions’ paths crossed once again in January. In that clash, Poirier used a mix of calf kicks, takedown attempts, and sound boxing to hand McGregor, 32, his first knockout defeat.
The duo’s trilogy fight takes place July 10 inside the T-Mobile Arena, in Las Vegas, Nevada. As they look to settle the score and get first dibs at new lightweight champion Charles Oliveira.
UFC 264 begins at 6:15 pm ET on UFC Fight Pass with the early preliminary fights. The second tier of prelims starts at 8 pm ET on ESPN and ESPN+. Then the main card pay-per-view commences exclusively on ESPN+ at 10 pm ET.
