Tanner Boser earned a big must-win victory over Ovince Saint Preux at UFC Vegas 30. But it was with some controversy.
Tanner Boser scores knockout at UFC Vegas 30
The first round of the bout saw the Canadian “Bulldozer” take the lead early, as he was the more active fighter throughout the opening frame, and scored with punches and kicks. He didn’t damage his opponent, but “OSP” started off slow and let the first round get away from him.
However, in the second, the long-time light heavyweight picked up the aggression, in his second fight as a heavyweight, and got an important takedown. The Haitian by way of Tennessee was able to control his opponent for the early parts of the round, however, Boser had his hand onthe cage while trying to get back to his feet. The manuever definitely aided him in getting out of a bad position on the mat, but it was hard to tell if he fully gripped the cage and pulled to get up or used the fence legally to post up.
Once back on the feet, the 29-year-old Boser–just a few weeks removed from his last bout–landed a right hand, a knee, and a second right-hand strike that badly hurt Saint Preux. One final shot from on high forced the referee to step in and end the fight with 2:30 left in the round.
The victory ends a two fight losing streak for Boser. He moves to 4-3 inside the Octagon and has split his two bouts in 2021. Saint Preux, 38, has now lost two straight, and has fallen in five his last eight.
