It was one of the most highly anticipated championship rematches in Ultimate Fighting Championship flyweight history. After a “fight of the year” candidate scrap in 2020, the fight world was curious about what we would get out of Deiveson Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno at UFC 263. In the end, it wasn’t about what both could offer in the runback, but how Moreno proved he is now the best flyweight in the world.

Over the first two rounds, the narrative was being set. Moreno was sharp, fast, and confident. While the champion came with a far more cautious style than his usual. Clearly showing the newfound respect he had for the challenger after the first fight. “The Assassin Baby” took advantage landing a strong jab often and even floored the Brazilian with that stiff jab near the end of the opening round. He was controlling the action and range.

Along with his striking leading the dance, he was also the superior grappler. Landing takedowns in every round and always looking to score points and work to advantageous positions. Then came the third round. The 27-year-old landed a nice body lock takedown and worked to a back position against the cage. Then like a python, he took his time to sink in a rear-naked choke. The champion defended on the first try, but the second time was successful.

Brandon Moreno handed “Deus Da Guerra” the second loss of his career and is now the new UFC flyweight champion of the world. To go from The Ultimate Fighter, to the UFC, to released, to back in the UFC, to a draw in a title fight, to the champion of the division. What a wild ride to the top for the new champion.
