Mark Madsen will look to continue his ascent up the UFC’s lightweight ladder when he meets a seasoned veteran.
Madsen (10-0 MMA, 2-0 UFC) faces Clay Guida (35-20 MMA, 15-14 UFC) at a UFC Fight Night card on Aug. 21, in an event which does not yet have an announced location or venue.
A person with knowledge of the matchup confirmed the booking to MMA Junkie but asked to remain anonymous because the promotion has yet to make an official announcement. Danish outlet ViaRitzau was first to report the news.
Madsen, a three-time Olympian in wrestling, is 2-0 to start off his UFC tenure. The undefeated Denmark-born fighter hasn’t competed in over a year and is coming off a unanimous decision win over Austin Hubbard at UFC 248 in March 2020.
Since moving back up to 155 pounds following a seven-fight stint at featherweight, Guida has seen mixed results. In his most recent outing, the 39-year-old was able to snap a two-fight losing skid with a unanimous decision win over Michael Johnson at UFC Fight Night 184 in February and will be entering his 30th octagon bout when he makes the walk against Madsen.
The latest lineup for UFC Fight Night on Aug. 21 includes:
- Paulo Costa vs. Jared Cannonier
- Fabio Cherant vs. William Knight
- Austin Hubbard vs. Vinc Pichel
- Alexandre Pantoja vs. Brandon Royval
- Austin Lingo vs. Luis Saldana
- Parker Porter vs. Chase Sherman
- Brian Kelleher vs. Domingo Pilarte
