Looking to continue to build off his recent four-fight winning streak, Lorenz Larkin is making his return to the Bellator cage in their next upcoming event. ESPN was first to report that Larkin will return in a middleweight fight against Costello van Steenis on May 8.
Larkin did not compete at all in 2020, and his last fight came against Keita Nakamura where he picked up a unanimous decision victory. Now the former Bellator welterweight challenger will jump back to a weight class he once competed in.
Lorenz Larkin moving back up to middleweight
After missing weight in his last fight against Nakamura and competing in a catchweight fight of 180 pounds against Fernando Gonzalez back at Bellator 193 in 2018. Larkin previously competed in the middleweight division back during his UFC tenure but elected to move down to welterweight after a three-fight losing skid at 185 pounds back in 2014. Now with four consecutive wins over the likes of Gonzalez, Nakamura, Andrey Koreshkov, and Ion Pascu, Larkin will jump back up to his old weight class.

An opponent full of potential
With a professional record of 13-2 in his career, Costello van Steenis represents a serious challenge to Larkin in the middleweight division, and he’s only suffered one loss under the Bellator banner. A winner in four out of his five fights in Bellator, van Steenis had his only loss come in a unanimous decision defeat to John Salter. Known as a protégé of middleweight champion Gegard Mousasi, van Steenis is currently ranked fifth in the division. If Larkin were able to pull off the victory, he could find himself right in the middle of the top of the middleweight division after his first fight at 185 for Bellator.
