A bantamweight bout between Felipe Colares and Journey Newson has been added to the UFC’s May 1 card.
MMA Fighting confirmed the matchup with sources with knowledge of the booking following an initial report from Todo Sobre MMA.
Colares (9-2) looks to bring his UFC record up to the .500 mark after alternating wins and losses in three appearances so far for the promotion. He has sandwiched a split decision win over Domingo Pilarte with decision losses to Montel Jackson and Geraldo de Freitas. This will be Colares’ first fight since January 2020.
Newson (9-3, 1 NC) also seeks to right the ship as his UFC journey has been a rocky one. He is technically without a win in the UFC after suffering losses to Randy Costa and Ricardo Ramos, and seeing a 38-second TKO of Pilarte overturned to a no contest after Newson tested positive for marijuana. Newson entered the UFC on a six-fight win streak.
No location or headliner has been announced yet for the UFC event on May 1.
