Two top Flyweight’s will collide in a pivotal showdown when Katlyn Chookagian faces off against Viviane Araujo in a scheduled Ultimate Fighting Championship (UF)C Fight Night event on ESPN+.
That’s according to ESPN’s Brett Okamato, who reports that the fight is expected to take place on May 15, though a location for the card has yet-to-be finalized.
Chookagian — who is currently the No. 2 ranked 125 pounder on UFC official rankings — is coming off a highly-impressive win over Cynthia Calvillo at UFC 255 last November. Prior to that, “Blonde Fighter” came up short against Jessica Andrade. Indeed, it was a busy year for Chookagian in 2020, competing four times, including taking part in her first-ever UFC fight, coming up short against Valentina Shevchenko at UFC 247.
Araujo, meanwhile, is currently riding a two-fight win steak with her most recent victory coming against Roxanne Modafferi last month at UFC Fight Island 8. In fact, her lone loss during 2017 came against Jessica Eye, a unanimous defeat at UFC 245. A win over Chookagian will undoubtedly up Araujo’s stock, and maybe even get her into the Top 5.
