The UFC 258 card has taken another hit, this time just hours before the first bout was set to begin.
A scheduled fight between women’s flyweight prospects Gillian Robertson and Miranda Maverick in Las Vegas was canceled Saturday afternoon after Robertson suffered an illness, according to the UFC. The illness was not related to COVID-19, per the promotion.
Robertson posted a statement on Instagram, writing that she woke up at 4 a.m. vomiting and her condition had not improved since then. “Heartbroken is the only way to describe it,” Robertson wrote.
Robertson (9-5) was coming off a unanimous-decision loss to Taila Santos in December, but the 25-year-old Canadian has won two of her past three overall. Maverick (8-2), a 23-year-old fighting out Virginia, has won four straight, including her UFC debut over Liana Jojua last October.
UFC 258 will go on with 10 fights. The pay-per-view event is headlined by a welterweight title fight between champion Kamaru Usman and Usman’s former longtime teammate Gilbert Burns. Top prospect Maycee Barber will meet Alexa Grasso in the women’s flyweight co-main event.
