#FreeGinaCarano? Mandalorian Star Fired Following ‘Abhorrent’ Post

MMA news

Welcome to Midnight Mania!

Gina Carano is very likely the most successful fighter turned actor in MMA history. The women’s MMA pioneer and former Strikeforce champion competed for the final time back in 2009, and though there were briefly talks for her to return opposite Ronda Rousey, she has instead stuck to the silver screen. Carano has starred in films like The Fast & Furious franchise, Deadpool, and most recently, as mercenary Care Dune in the Disney+ hit The Mandalorian.

As recently as November, Carano has come under fire for publicly posted views on hot button topics like the presidential election, COVID-19, the LGBT community, and more. Back then, some Star Wars fans were already calling for her removal, but it would appear that the message did not quite sink in.

Reposting a TikTok video that compared modern day division to Nazi Germany and the Holocaust to her Instagram story, Carano wrote, “Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors…even by children. Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews. How is that any different from hating someone for their political views.”

The story was since deleted, but of course, the Internet kept a copy.

As a result of her posts and the ensuing controversy, a LucasFilms released a statement, “Gina Carano is not currently employed by Lucasfilm and there are no plans for her to be in the future. Nevertheless, her social media posts denigrating people based on their cultural and religious identities are abhorrent and unacceptable.”

Prior to these incidents, it was commonly believed that Carano and her character would return for future seasons of The Mandalorian.

Insomnia

Should TJ Dillashaw return directly to the title mix, or be forced to work his way back up? I’d like to see him fight someone like Rob Font, Pedro Munhoz, or Jimmie Rivera.

This sounds like rather bad news for “Violent Bob Ross.”

I’m a sucker for little kids hitting mitts.

Who wins the battle of team mates between Kamaru Usman and Gilbert Burns?

A little lawn Judo …

Is there any doubt at all that Dustin Poirier vs. Conor McGregor 3 is next for the belt? Charles Oliveira is pouting somewhere already.

Slips, rips, and KO clips

This is an ultra violent face frame to elbow.

In this era of BJJ, you cannot let someone hold onto your foot for more than a split-second and not expect to pay for it.

Took her time lining up this spinning elbow:

Random Land

A nasty car crash + genuine miracle.

Midnight Music: LCD Soundsystem’s 2017 return from retirement LP American Dream is not regarded as highly as their earlier work, but it does include the track “Oh Baby,” which I love.

Sleep well Maniacs! More martial arts madness is always on the way.
